Course Structure and Content

The creation of computer software for the purposes of entertainment is a large and rapidly growing field. The computer games industry has developed considerably in recent years and supports extensive new ideas and research into graphics, physics simulation and AI.

This degree provides with a well rounded and comprehensive program of study into the technology, software development and techniques used in computer games with particular emphasis on the scientific developments in real time graphics, simulation of physics and games AI. Graduates would be well suited to careers in games programming, games research and development, as well as computer graphics applications and traditional computing.

In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental material on computer programming, games and graphics hardware and graphical mathematics. In the second year modules include core games programming, simulation, APIs and networks. In the final year study includes games physics and games artificial intelligence and real time graphics, and the opportunity to work on large games software projects as part of a team, including working with artists, in preparation for industry practice in computer games production.

Students may choose to spend a year in industry after their second year or opt to continue immediately with their final year options.

Course Structure and Content

Full time undergraduate degrees are taught over three years at the university, plus perhaps, a "sandwich" year in industry after the second year.

These are the modules you could expect to study on this course. The modules you can choose in your Second and Final years will depend on those you have studied in preceeding years. Also, some second and final year modules may be changed or restructured in order to keep the course up to date with latest trends in the industry.
