Podcasting

Podcasts and other audio and video files are increasingly being used as a learning and teaching resource within Higher Education. As part of the Pathfinder project, the team supported the use of podcasting within a First Year module 'Introduction to Digital Music' module in the School of Computing.

As part of the project all the students and staff on the module were given a basic MP3 player with which to listen to the podcasts. The project had two main aims

• to investigate which platform students preferred to listen to the podcats and what limitations this would put on the types of media that could be included.
• To encourage students to research aroud the subject area and to provide a convenient means of disseminating the results of the research to their peers, i.e. by means of podcasts.
