Philip Barker is Professor of Applied Computing within the School of Computing and Mathematics at the University of Teesside. His main research interests are in the area of Human-Computer Interaction and its applications to the problems of technology utilisation within the context of teaching and learning activities in both academic and non-academic environments.

Professor Barker is editor of the journal 'Innovations in Education and Training International', associate editor of ALT-J and European editor of the 'Journal of Interactive Learning Research'. He is a contibuting editor for 'Educational Technology Review' and is on the editorial boards of 'The Electronic Library' and the 'International Journal of Human-Computer Studies'.
